Aftercare
Good aftercare decreases the risks of complications, increases the response to treatment and gets you to your skin goals sooner! Each treatment has its own unique after care instructions so please have a read and ask us if you have any questions or concerns.
Remember we are all a little unique in our physiology, treatment plans and goals, so talk to your provider about how you can best optimize your skin health process.
Maximising the benefits of a facial treatmentBy taking care of the aftereffects of the treatment on your skin, you are giving it time to adapt to the treatments and ingredients, thereby boosting the effectiveness of the treatment in restoring your skin’s health.
Helping you reach your skin goals fasterDifferent facial treatments offer different results, and this varies depending on your skin concerns, skin type and goals.
Much like taking medications and getting on bedrest when you fall ill, the aftercare helps your skin get better. The more you keep to it, the sooner you will see your desired results.
Preventing overstimulation or lingering side effectsSome facial treatments may involve procedures that may overstimulate your skin, such as extractions.
The aftercare here plays an important role - as with all other facials - as it helps in reducing the side effects of such facial treatments as much as possible, so that you may achieve your desired skin goals.

BBL Acne
Treatment Aftercare
Patient response can vary after a BBL Acne treatment. Erythema (redness) is usually noted within a few minutes after the completion of the procedure. A slight sun burn sensation in and around the area treated is also normal and expected. These reactions tend to subside within 1-4 hours after the treatment.
The treated area must be treated with care. BE GENTLE! Do not scratch or pick at your skin.
- Until sensitivity has completely subsided, avoid all of the following:
- Sun exposure

- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
- Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 – 14 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sun block with SPF of 30+, reapplying every two hours. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment
- A cold compress or an ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is especially warm. This is rarely needed but if so, usually within the first 4 hours after the treatment.
- Makeup can be applied immediately after treatment as long as skin is intact and there are no signs of blistering.
- Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect.
- Post treatment discomfort is typically minimal but if the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers, i.e. Extra Strength Tylenol may be used.
- If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact our clinic immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.
- Subsequent treatments are based upon your clinician’s recommendation and are typically 1-2 treatments per week for at least 4 weeks or until acne clears. The number and frequency of treatments required will depend on the severity of your acne and how well it responds to treatment.
- Clinical studies suggest that at least two BBL acne treatments are needed to begin to see results and results have been reported to last up to 6 months.

Dermaplaning
Aftercare for Dermaplaning Download
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning is an excellent anti-aging treatment that provides immediate and cumulative results with each service you receive. Dermaplaning is a physical exfoliation that has removed dead skin cells and vellous hair from the surface of your skin. Your face should feel softer than ever and look brighter and more youthful.
Be sure to take care of your skin following dermaplaning or other anti-aging treatments. Following these instructions will maintain your results longer and help you avoid complications.
Day of Treatment
Redness, itching, prickling/heat, slight swelling, possible tenderess and sensitivity, and tightness are common activities to be expected during and after peel.
Do
Step 1 Cleanse Use a gentle cleanser and warm, not hot, water. Splash water on face. Do not use abrasive wash cloths, Clarisonic, or hot shower spray for the rst 24-48 hours. Do not use cleansers, serums or spot treatments containing salicylic acid or Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) for 5 days following treatment.
Step 2 Tone Hydrating and brightening toners applied with a cotton round will penetrate deeper into the skin. If you are sensitive, try all products on a small area before applying full face.
Step 3 Serums Active ingredients in serums penetrate much better now, so you'll see quicker results. Ask your esthetician or nurse about the right serums for your skin. Please do not use Retin-A, 5 days pre and post dermaplaning. For darker skin tones: use a brightening serum to reduce the risk of excess pigment production.
Step 4 Moisturizer Choose a hydrating moisturizer and apply twice daily. It's common for skin to feel tight but is dewy to the touch it's good and will only last a short time. Moisturizer locks in skin's hydration with the added absorption of its active ingredients. For darker skin tones: use a 1% hydrocortisone cream for 5 days following treatment to calm in ammation and reduce the risk of excess pigment production.
Step 5 SPF Your skin is more vulnerable to UV rays after exfoliation. SPF is essential to protect your skin - even on cloudy days when UVA (aging) rays are present.
Schedule your appointments 4 weeks apart to optimize results.
Call your aesthetician with both compliments and concerns.
Don't
Makeup can irritate skin after dermaplaning. Bacteria, alcohols, colorants and fragrance are all irritants that can cause contact dermatitis. Be sure to clean your makeup brushes and apply clean (new) makeup to minimize risks.
Avoid sun exposure as much as possible. If you must be in the sun, apply and reapply SPF 30+ every 2 hours, wear a hat and sunglasses and seek shade.
Delay exposure to excessive heat, heavy workouts, steam rooms and saunas for 24-48 hours post treatment. DO: Wait 7 days before facial waxing. Waxing may be done prior to dermaplaning.

Phototherapy

Phototherapy
BBL Phototherapy Aftercare
The natural extrinsic consequences of aging on skin include sun damage, freckles, age spots, and redness caused by broken capillaries and rosacea. Some of these arise from intrinsic hormonal factors that create an over production of melanin, or hereditary factors that produce more vessels. Phototherapy reduces these signs of aging by using non-invasive pulses of BroadBand Light (BBL).
If brown spots are the target, BBL penetrates the skin to reach the melanocytes. The particles of the cells left behind will peel or slough off within 7-14 days
If redness is the target, blood vessels in the deeper layers of the skin absorb the light and the heat created by the light damages the vessels. The vessels are shut down and the body continues to absorb the destroyed vessel remnants
There is no recovery time and a low risk of complications with Phototherapy treatments. Multiple sessions are required and performed every 2-4 weeks until the desired result has been achieved.
The treated area must be treated with care. BE GENTLE! Do not scratch or pick at your skin.
-
Until sensitivity has completely subsided, avoid all of the following:
- Sun exposure
- Use of scented lotions or soaps, exfoliant creams (Retin-A, AHA’s, BHA’s), acne creams or gels, loofa sponges and aggressive scrubbing
- Hot or cold water - wash with tepid water
- Shaving
- Swimming pools and spas with multiple chemicals/chlorine
- Activities that cause excessive perspiration
- Strictly avoid any sun exposure to the treated area for a minimum of 7 - 14 days after the procedure. The treated area is more prone to sunburn and pigmentation change. Keep the area covered and use a sun block SPF of 30+. Reapply every 2 hours. Delayed blistering secondary to sun exposure has been noted up to 72 hours post treatment.
- Sun exposure should be avoided between treatments and a sunblock should be used on a daily basis.
- A cold compress or an ice pack can be used to provide comfort if the treated area is warm. This is typically only needed within the first 12 hours after the treatment.
- Skin may appear red, swollen and/or have a mild sunburnt sensation. This is a normal reaction. It can last from a few hours to days after treatment. Applying an ice pack for the first 24 hours will help minimize swelling.
- Vitamin E or Aloe Vera applied to the treatment area may provide a soothing effect. Post treatment discomfort is typically minimal but if the area is very uncomfortable, oral pain relievers, i.e. Extra Strength Tylenol may be used.
- Freckles and sunspots may turn slightly darker initially and then flake off within 7-14 days. This is a desired and normal reaction.
- There may be erythema (redness) and slight edema (swelling) around the treated vessels. Often, they are lighter in appearance and look somewhat smudgy or less defined.
- Makeup may be applied immediately after the treatment as long as skin integrity has not been compromised.
- In the unusual case of crusting of the skin in the treated area, apply an antibiotic ointment twice a day to the affected areas. Do not pick at these areas, as this may result in infection or scarring.
- If the skin is broken or a blister appears, apply an antibiotic ointment and contact our clinic immediately. Keep the affected area moist and avoid direct sunlight.

PRP
PRP Procedure
PRP is indicated for a variety of cosmetic and medical uses. The benefits of PRP include improvements in the volume, texture, and tone of the facial skin with decreased appearance of wrinkles. PRP has also been found to treat hair loss called androgenic alopecia (male or female pattern baldness) with good results of hair regrowth. Once you have received a platelet-rich plasma injection, the components will accelerate tissue healing via new collagen formation at the treatment site.
Treatment Achieves
- Improve dull skin tone
- Reduce wrinkles
- Treat hair loss and thinning hair
- Improve scars and acne
- Improve skin texture
- Increase collagen production
- Enhance skin elasticity, tone and thickness
What To Expect After PRP Injections:
It is important to understand that PRP injections are not filler-or filling the area. You will see some swelling from the plasma that was injected, however, this swelling will subside and begin stimulating collagen production to the area. Immediately following procedure, the most commonly reported temporary side effects are redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, tingling, numbness, lumpiness, and/or a feeling of pressure or fullness at the injection site and/or treated area(s). Cold gel packs/ice may be applied immediately after to reduce swelling
To Maximize Results And Prevent Complications:
Avoid scrubbing the injection site for at least 4 hours.
Avoid direct high heat (eg. blow dryer, sun, sauna, steam room, very hot shower, hot yoga, strenuous activity or exercise, etc) for 24 hours
Contact the clinic if you notice any signs of infection (abnormal redness, pain, or leakage from injection sites)
Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil. These agents will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical and responsible for your skin or hair rejuvenation.
The Brigette PRP Facial
Treatment Includes And Achieves:
- Dermaplaning to physically exfoliate dead skin and vellus hair to prepare the skin for treatment
- Microneedling to enhance absorption of PRP and assist in collagen building, smooth acne scars and fine lines, and help fill pitting or areas that lack structure.
- PRP injected to stimulate growth factors and improve skin tone, texture, and thickness
- Skin booster Hyaluronic Acid to improve hydration, improve appearance of fine lines, improve smoothness and even out skin tone
- Skin enhancing Vitamindrip TM "Cosmetic" IV fortified with amino acids and active ingredients to repair and stimulate collagen growth naturally. Indicated to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, suppress formation of acne and blemished, and produce collagen.
Day 1:
It is ideal to leave the PRP on the skin for at least 8 hours. On the next day, you may clean your face with cool water and apply moisturizer and other topical products as approved by your provider. Stay away from exfoliants or glycolic acids that are present as these can make your skin very dry after the procedure. Be sure to use an approved SPF 30 or greater sunscreen. Use Tylenol only as needed for any soreness. Use a clean pillow care for 3 nights following procedure. It is important to make sure everything touching your face is sanitized (makeup brushes, glasses, etc). Swelling and redness most likely will occur and last for a few days.
Day 2-7:
Within two days following your mico-needling PRP procedure, you may notice skin dryness and flaking. This is due to an increased skin turnover. During this period, you may apply your regular skin moisturizer or follow directions provided by your medical professional. If you were treated around the eyes, you may have little micro bruising and swelling that may exist for three to four days.
Days 7+:
A week after the micro-needling PRP procedure, most patients notice their skin is smoother and radiant. You may start to use exfoliants and active ingredients (glycolic, retinols, etc) again.
Recommend follow up and repeat treatment in 4-6 weeks for best results in a series of 3-6 treatments.
Thread Lifts
Aftercare for Thread Lifts Download
Thread Lifts
Recovery from a Thread Lift
A thread lift requires very little recovery time because of its minimally invasive nature, but it is still helpful to have a basic idea of when you can expect to return to normal living. The following list provides an idea, but you should always follow any additional instructions given as each patient’s lift is unique to their treatment plan.
What should I expect?
The area treated may feel tight, this is normal. The tightness is caused by swelling, how much soft tissue was lifted and how tight the sutures were placed. This should ease in the next 7-14 days. You may experience some visible swelling and bruising. This can be relieved with ice and rest. You should expect a small amount of discomfort relieved with Tylenol and ice.
After Treatment Care for a Thread Lift
- If your skin tends to swell or bruise, ice the area for 30 minutes 4-5 times a day for the first 5 days.
- Limit aggressive facial motion/or rubbing for at least 24 hours, avoid facial creams or makeup for 24 hours, do not drink with a straw, keep the head elevated (including bending lower than heart-level) at a 45-degree angle for 5-7 days, eat soft foods or drink liquids for 7-10 days, avoid chewing gum for 2 weeks, avoid heavy exertion for 2-3 weeks and avoid pulling down on face or massaging it for 3 weeks.
- Try and avoid sleeping on your side or face for up to 7 days.
When Can I Start Working Again?
Usually, you should expect to return to work within 1 day of treatment, but that can vary from job to job. A job that doesn’t require a lot of activity could be resumed in 1-2 days. A more strenuous job or a job that requires a lot of movement and activity, such personal training may require more time off.
When Can I Shower?
You should refrain from washing, wetting and touching your face or the treated area for at 12 hours after your procedure. Once you do start showering and cleansing the area, be careful not to massage or scrub with a washcloth for 1-2 weeks after your thread lift.
When Can I Resume My Regular Skin Care Routine?
You can gently resume a basic wash, dry, lotion routine about 48 hours after your thread lift, but avoid any type of scrubbing, tugging or exfoliation, and check with your medical team before applying any prescription strength creams or topical medications.
When Can I Exercise Again?
You can resume light forms of exercise, such as walking within 24-48 hours. Be cautious not to strain the area. Strenuous activity such as weightlifting or running should be avoided until after your follow up apt. Yoga, which requires your head to be below your heart, should be avoided for 7 days.
What to watch for:
A small amount of bruising, swelling and/or pain is normal for the next 48-72 hours. If your pain persists or increases over the next few days, please let us know. If you notice any drainage from the site, thread migration (puckering), or the site becomes hot or red, you develop a fever, or feel unwell text or call us immediately.
On-call medical team can be reached anytime at 403-763-3464. For non-emergency calls please call the clinic at 403-475-4025.
